BBC Events engaged Festival Republic to produce its Middlesbrough three day Radio One Big Weekend show, with Nine Yards managing site and stage production.
For the years’ first major summer festival, in May 2019, we were contracted to provide three Serious stages, along with site structures, including a three storey front-of-house platform, assisted viewing platforms, four x 12m GT Asteroid speaker delay towers and camera platforms.
The stages needed to accommodate the multiple artist changeovers, look great for the live crowd and on camera for the broadcast output. Our main stage was a 25m x five bay Space roof, with cantilever front, flanking goalposts carrying branding, screens and PA, creating an impressive 38m frontage onto the main arena, where audiences enjoyed an incredible line-up of pop artists.
We also constructed a 31m x 14m platform inside a big top for the second stage which was split into a performance stage, with wings for tech and rear loading area served by two loading ramps. The third stage deck was the BBC Introducing stage for up and coming artists.
